In 2014 I went on a photography tour to the beautiful Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Each year, Buddhist temples around the country hold three-day festivals in which monks tell ancient stories via dance. They wear elaborate costumes and heavy wooden masks which are kept in the temples and lovingly restored every year. I attended two festivals and was given privileged access to the preparations and performances. It was a very colourful spectacle - as can be seen in the images in my Bhutan album - but I chose to create this portfolio collection in sepia-toned monochrome, to reflect the ageless nature of these events.
